Pedowitz Midwest Rigging: Safely Transporting Alison Saar's "To Sit A While" Sculptures
In March 2024, Pedowitz Midwest Rigging was tasked with the complex transport and assembly of renowned artist Alison Saar’s “To Sit A While” sculpture series. These six stunning bronze sculptures, featuring intricate steel bases and ramps, traveled across major U.S. cities, from New York to California, making a stop in Detroit and an assembly in Chicago. Our expert team employed a combination of forklifts and gantries to ensure safe and precise assembly at each location.
The sculptures, which range in size from the 600 lb “Figure on Stump” to the 115 lb Ottoman, required meticulous handling due to their delicate craftsmanship and significant weight. The heaviest component—the base—was disassembled into three sections, each weighing over 1,100 lbs, while the ramp added up to 1,000 lbs to the overall setup. Transporting these pieces across the country required careful planning, coordination, and expert rigging solutions.
